Vittorio Erba / Books
Lately I have been reading mostly narrative non-fiction, i.e. nicely written accounts of true facts.
I also enjoyed reading some long essays.
Up to a couple of years ago, I was exclusively reading fiction, but I am a bit fatigued by that now.
I wonder why.
Some favourite books
- "Norvegian wood" by Haruki Murakami
- "Le grand cahier, La preuve, Le troisieme mensonge" by Agota Kristof
- "Master and Margarita" by Mikhail Bulgakov
- "Of mice and men" and "The Grapes of Wrath" (but check this) by John Steinbeck
A list of books that sparked a change in the way I read
-
"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" by J. K. Rowling
I got this (with also book 4 and 5 of the series) for my 8th birthday.
It was my first "big" book, and started a moment of my life where I voraciously read the Harry Potter books over and over again.
-
"The Hobbit" by J. R. R. Tolkien
I selected this for some compulsory school reading when I was 12.
It started my fantasy period, were I read (and re-read) the Lord of the Rings, the Eragon books, too much of Licia Troisi, Narnia (but never finished it), etc...
-
"Siddartha" by Herman Hesse
The first book from an important writer I remember reading because I wanted to, and not because I had to (for school).
-
"The Unbearable Lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera
After reading this, I got very very into Kundera, reading his books almost exclusively for a while.
-
"Norvegian Wood" by Haruki Murakami
Started my "depressed japansese" period, consisting mostly of Murakami and Yoshimoto, the latter being extremely easy to buy used for cheap.
-
"Into thin air" by Jon Krakauer
After reading it, I started a period of reading almost exclusively narrative non-fiction, after ages of reading only narrative.
